The Adoption Contact Register for Scotland is a confidential computerised database. The purpose of the Register is to put adopted people and their birth parents, or other birth relatives, in touch with each other when both parties want this to happen.

The purpose of our Search service is to trace a birth relative. Birthlink
has a group of experienced and trained volunteers who will conduct a search
on your behalf.
The search and any resulting information is coordinated by a member of the
Birthlink staff. Birthlink's access to and use of new technology further
enhances this work eg. our knowledge of appropriate Internet sites can assist
in locating people.

Birthlink has helped many adopted people and their birth relatives to establish and maintain contact. Birthlink staff draw on years of experience in facilitating contact between people separated by adoption. Be assured that we are aware of the sensitive and delicate nature of this stage of your search and we will consult with you before taking any action.

You have the right to see the legal documents that were lodged in the Court at the time of adoption. These legal papers are known as the Court Process. Birthlink Staff can help you identify their current whereabouts and suggest how you may access the papers.
